Biddle, John
(1615, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, Inglaterra–22 sep. 1662, Londres).

Padre del unitarismo inglés. Estudió en la Universidad de Oxford y ejerció como maestro en una escuela gratuita en Gloucester. En 1644 escribió Doce argumentos, en la que negaba la divinidad del Espíritu Santo. Cuando las autoridades eclesiásticas conocieron el manuscrito, fue arrestado y encarcelado por dos años. Después de su publicación en 1647, fue nuevamente detenido y se quemaron ejemplares del libro. Sus escritos posteriores atacaron la doctrina de la Santísima Trinidad. En 1652, liberado de un tercer encarcelamiento, se empezó a reunir con sus seguidores para practicar su culto, los que llegaron a ser llamados los unitarios. Después de que Biddle publicó su Two-Fold Catechism (1654), Oliver Cromwell evitó su ejecución desterrándolo a las islas Scilly. Volvió a Inglaterra en 1658 y en 1662 fue enviado nuevamente a prisión, donde murió.
